If you’re looking to explore the great outdoors, you can rent a boat and set sail on one of the Whitefish or Ossawinnamakee's lakes, hit a ball at one of the 2 dozen local golf courses, drop a line to catch some fish, bike through the communities or along the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway, explore area trails by walking, hiking or even a-top a horse, go birding or geocaching, take the kids to an area playground …the outdoor options are endless!

If you’d prefer to be inside for one reason or another, you can go back in time at area museums, shop the local stores, dine in local restaurants, relax at a spa, take an interesting and educational factory tour, or just head to the movies. View a map of all the options for things to do.

Best Public Beach — Crosslake

The US Army Corps of Engineers Dam and Recreational Park in Crosslake offers two swimming beaches, a playground, many scenic campsites, and boat access to Cross Lake with in the Whitefish Chain. The majestic dam, built originally to regulate the supply of water for the Mississippi River, now manages the waterways for recreational use of the waters. While on the grounds, see the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Exhibit Room in the Corp's Administrative building.

Restored Train Depot — Pine River

The historic Pine River Depot in downtown Pine River offers a newly restored railroad depot (cir 1800s), as well as a 1919 horse-drawn fire engine and a red caboose. Located on the grounds of the Information Center, on the corner of Hwy 371 and Barclay Ave in Pine River, Heritage Group North was the leading force behind the depot's restoration.
