Fishing

Whether you are wetting a line for the first time or consider yourself a “pro” the Whitefish Chain of Lakes is abundant in many species including blue gills, crappie, walleye, northern pike and large mouth bass. Lake trout are being stocked annually into Trout Lake. Check out the fishing report (see below) or talk with a local to find your hot spot. Everything from the worms to a guide are available when you arrive to help you hook into a memorable experience. Check with your loding property before your arrival, as they may sell live bait. Also ask your lodging property for their recommendations on experienced area fishing guides.

Ice Conditions in the Crosslake Area:

Whitefish, Trout and Crosslake now have 8 inches of ice on average. Snowmobile and four-wheeler travel is possible. Most other lakes have good ice.  Walleye action is starting out good with anglers finding fish in 20 to 26 feet. Shiner or Rainbow minnows, bobber fished or jigged on rattle spoons have produced the most fish thus far. Pelican, North Long and Round have given up nice size fish. Crappie action has been good with anglers reporting plenty of action using crappie minnows on small glow jigs or spoons. Northern anglers are reporting picking up fish on tip-ups with pike minnows, fishing off points and bars. Crappie action has been good with anglers reporting plenty of action using crappie minnows on small glow jigs or spoons.
